Visitors to Cubbon Park can hire GPS-enabled cycles from Jan 26

The tourism department and the Namma Cycle Foundation are collaborating on Cubbon Trails, an initiative to promote tourism and cycling. Cycle stations will come up on January 26 near the park gates on M G Road, Kasturba Road, Hudson Circle and Ambedkar Veedhi.

Murali H R, CEO of the foundation, said, "Cubbon Park is known for its botanical wealth and heritage structures. Cycling is the best way to access them."

GPS-enabled cycles can be hired from the four stations at the park.

After riding around, tourists can return the cycles to any station. A station accommodates 15 to 20 cycles.

An app, now in the making, will provide details of Cubbon Park and its heritage structures.

The Namma Cycle Foundation will also provide cycles for children.

"We will also keep cycles near Bal Bhavan, besides the four stations," Murali explained.

Tandem cycles, or cycles that can be pedalled by two or more people, will also be available. "They can be hired here for the first time in the country," he told DH.

The foundation is also working with the tourism department to set up a cycle-sharing service in Srirangapatna.
