Bahuroopi-2018, national theatre fest, to kickstart from Jan 14

Rangayana is gearing up for Bahuroopi-2018, a national theatre festival. The eight-day event will commence on January 14 on Sankranthi Day, at Vanaranga in Rangayana on Kalamandira premises.

The festival is being hosted with the theme 'Migration'. A variety of performances, such as multilingual theatre art, symposium, film festival, painting exhibition, poster exhibition, folk performance, yuvaspandana, desi food festival, handicrafts festival and book festival, would add more colour to the festival.

While theatre troupes from neighbouring states would stage nine plays, nine plays will be performed by the troupes from various parts of Karnataka. Similarly, six solo performance has been organised.

Rangayana Director Bhagirathi Bai Kadam said that 24 movies will be screened during the festival and on January 20 and 21. An international symposium on 'Migration' has been scheduled. Writer Nandita Haksar, journalist P Sainath, and other personalities will attend the symposium.

'Migration' theme

The theme 'Migration' is selected as there is a need for more debate on the issue. The director said that as many as 70 stalls of books, food, handicrafts items, will be put up on Kalamandira premises.

She said Jnanapith awardee Girish Karnad will inaugurate the festival at Vanaranga at 5.30 pm. District In-charge and Public Works Minister H C Mahadevappa will release the souvenir. Minister for Kannada and Culture Department and Women and Child Welfare Department Umashree will inaugurate the Handicrafts and Book Festival. MP Pratap Simha, Mayor M J Ravikumar, National School of Drama, New Delhi, former director Anuradha Kapoor, and MLA Vasu will be present on the occasion.

Deputy Commissioner D Randeep released the poster on Thursday, in the presence of Rangayana Joint Director V N Mallikarjunaswamy, and convenors of Bahuroopi Krishnaprasad and Mime Ramesh.
