KPCC vice president B Shivaram, on Tuesday said that with the implementation of the Yettinahole water project, the lakes under Belur Assembly constituency will be filled in the next one year.
Addressing reporters here, Shivaram said, "The government has decided to share 0.129 tmcft of water to around 61 lakes, under Halebeedu, Madihalli and Javagal hoblis."
He displayed a letter, signed by Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in this regard. "Continuous struggle for water has yielded results with the government finally giving the official nod," he said.
With the Yettinahole project, 21 villages of Halebeedu hobli, 86 of Madihalli and 64 villages of Javagal hobli will be benefited, and 1.31 lakh people will get irrigation facilities, he added.
Seer Pushpagiri Somashekar Shivacharya expressed happiness over the government's decision to share 0.129 tmcft of water to Madihalli and Halebeedu hoblis from Yettinahole project.
The seer had staged an indefinite strike in Belur, urging the government to take necessary measures to fill the lakes in the region.
