'Chandragiri Fort to be developed'

A project to develop Chandragiri Fort in Kasargod as a tourist destination was flagged off by Kadannappally Ramachandran, Minister for Archaeology and Archives.

Speaking on the occasion, he said that Rs 85 lakh has been sanctioned to develop Bekal Fort, situated four kilometre away from Kasargod town. The Chandragiri Fort, which is situated on seven-and-a-half acre land, will be protected and conserved.

The minister said basic facilities would be provided near Chandragiri Fort, Thurthi island and to view the beauty of the Chandragiri River joining the Arabian sea. The project will include providing seating arrangements, rest room, drinking water and toilet facilities. Some of the pillars of Chandragiri Fort will be rebuilt. Walkers path will be laid inside the Fort. The four ponds and a lake inside the Fort will be rejuvenated, he added.

Ramachandran said that tourism will be promoted from Mahe River to Chandragiri River. A sum of Rs 53.50 lakh for Polali (Povval) Fort and Rs 36.50 lakh for Hosadurga Fort will be sanctioned, he added.
