Indiranagar residents fret over NY celebrations at illegal pubs

Last Updated 27 December 2017, 20:00 IST

Residents of Indiranagar are not happy with illegal pubs and restaurant in their locality  holding New Year celebrations.

Jonah's by Chef Willi and The Fatty Bao, both in Indiranagar 2nd Stage,  were closed on Friday evening on the orders of Dr Ashok, Joint Commissioner (East), BBMP. The official visited the area following complaints from residents and closed the rooftop taverns. But the very next day, the watering holes reopened.

Residents complain that the establishments were functioning in a residential area in clear violation of the rules, and lacked  fire safety and building plan approvals.

Dinesh, a manager  at Jonah's, said: "The BBMP served us a notice to close down, but we have permission to operate for 15 more days as we requested the officials to give us some time and they have agreed. New Year celebrations will be organised without any loud music."

Sneha Nandihal, president, BM Kaval Bairasandra Resident Welfare Association, who spearheaded the campaign against the watering holes, said: "We have sought  an appointment  with DCP (East) Ajay Hilori  and BBMP Joint Commissioner (East) to complain about  New Year celebrations with loud music."
