Kannada Sahitya Parishat (KSP) president Manu Baligar said on Saturday that Kannada language should get priority in business establishments such as hotels and malls.

Addressing a gathering during the inaugural ceremony of the 15th Mandya district Kannada Sahitya Sammelan here, he said that it is everyone's responsibility to make efforts for the development of Kannada.

"We hardly see people communicating in Kannada in malls and hotels. The food menu in hotels should be printed in Kannada and the sales representatives in malls should communicate in Kannada," Baligar said.

He said that non-Kannadigas are dominating in Bengaluru and this is posing a threat to the language and the society. "History holds evidence to the fact that the land can be expanded through language. Bengaluru culture is entering villages," he said.

Baligar called upon Kannadigas to stay united to protect Kannada and the state. "Folklore, Vacahanas, and Dasa Sahitya will not allow Kannada to die. According to research, Kannada script was prominent from first to 10th century," he said.

Sammelan president Pradeep Kumar Hebri dedicated his speech to the schoolgirl who was gang raped and murdered in Vijayapura recently and said that, "The girl died due to the demonic act of a human's heinous nature."
