Udupi District-In-charge Minister Pramod Madhwaraj flagged off heli tourism on Friday, as a part of Udupi Parba in Udupi on the shores of Malpe beach. The Udupi Parba will be held from December 29 to 31.

This will enable the people to get a breathtaking view of Udupi, Kundapur and nearby areas by helicopter.

The heli tourism facility is being provided by the New Delhi-based chartered service provider, Chipsan Aviation. The facility would be available at the NCC Ground in Udupi until December 27, while it would be available at UVA Meridian Resorts at Koteshwar near Kundapur from December 28 to 31.

Those who board the helicopter from NCC ground in Udupi can see Malpe beach and Manipal. While those who take a helicopter ride from Koteshwar will get a view of backwaters, Gangolli fisheries harbour and Kodi beach.

The helicopter ride will be available in two categories - Joy Ride for eight minutes and Adventure Ride for 12 minutes. The cost of Joy Ride is Rs 2,500 per person, while the ticket for Adventure Ride is Rs 3,000 per person.

Speaking on the occasion, Pramod Madhwaraj said that Udupi is known for its natural beauty, backwaters, beaches and temples. The scope for promotion of tourism should be utilised to the fullest.

"I have travelled with the Chief Minister in a helicopter. I had a joy ride in a helicopter in foreign countries. This is the first time that I got a chance to get an aerial view of Udupi Assembly constituency. The view of Udupi, Malpe and Manipal is beautiful and gave a new experience," said the Minister.

"To promote tourism, heli tourism has been started in Udupi. The six acres land has been handed over to the tourism department. We will think over setting up a permanent heli tourism in the district," said Tourism Department Assistant Director Anitha.
