'Boom in dairy production in Udupi'

NABARD Assistant General Manager (AGM) S Ramesh said that the dairy farming in the district would be promoted on a large scale with the newly brought up 2.5 lakh litres capacity dairy at Uppur.

Speaking at the quarterly review meet held for the district lead banks, the AGM said that the district has self-sustenance in milk production. Except for the three defunct milk cooperative societies, all other societies are preparing for the large-scale boom in business transaction following the setting up of new dairy. The bulk storage is also being supported by the Dakshina Kannada Milk Union.

Elaborating on it the AGM said that government is supporting the fisheries sector on a large scale. Fisherwomen societies are coming up in large numbers, he added and maintained that the MSME sector is another priority sector with 30 percent credit ratio. The bankers can embark upon exploiting the potentials of the MSME sector, he urged.

Emphasizing on the irrigation projects in the district, the AGM said that 150 irrigation related projects are unveiled for the year 2018 under NABARD.

Lead district chief manager Francis Borgia said that the stand-up schemes have very poor performance in the district. The schemes should be promoted. Vijaya Bank has offered Rs 20 lakh for the stand-up scheme, he added.

The potential lead credit plan which was released on the occasion allocated the target of Rs 94417.89 lakh for the crop production, maintenance and marketing and another Rs 93,145.39 lakh for the term loan for agriculture and allied activities.

Delivering the keynote address, Syndicate Bank DGM S S Hegde said that during the second quarter, total deposits of the banking sector in the district stood up at Rs 21530 crore. The year on year growth is 13.54 percent. The CD ratio is 49.84 percent. During the period, the banks disbursed the loans to the extent of Rs 3667 crore as against the annual target of Rs 7340 crore. The achievement ratio is 50 percent. Of this, Rs 1337 crore is disbursed to the agriculture sector, Rs 911 crore to MSME sector, Rs 43.11 crore to educational sector respectively.

The number of women financed by the banks stood at 1,37,655 with an outstanding amount of Rs 2425.78 crore and the educational loans of Rs 28.07 crore were made available to 2742 students. Under Kissan Credit Card scheme, Rs 215.18 crore is disbursed covering 20011 card holders, he added.
