Manasa centre wins Chiguru contest

Manasa rehabilitation and training centre, Pamboor emerged as overall winners of Chiguru-2017, a state-level inter-school cultural fest for special children.

SAHODAYA – An outreach programme of St Aloysius College Mangaluru organised the event on Sunday.

The programme was inaugurated by St Aloysius Institutions Rector Rev Dr. Fr Dionysius Vaz who said that special children are the source of inspiration and they are open-minded human persons who smile and make us happy.

St Aloysius College Principal Rev Fr Praveen Martis presided over the function. Eight schools of special children from all over Karnataka participated in the competition.

The winners were awarded cash prizes and trophies. St Agnes Special School Mangaluru bagged the runners-up trophy. Competitions such as group singing, folk dance, pot painting, sketching, embroidery, lemon race, brass band and collage were held.

The event is intended to bring together talented special children from the entire state and provide them with a forum to display their proficiency in various performing arts.

Sahodaya, an outreach programme for the empowerment of the specially abled was started in 2000 to sensitise the staff and the students towards the needs and aspirations of the specially abled. The programme has been constantly working with groups and institutions catering to the needs of the specially abled.
