'Reschedule intercity express timings'

Last Updated 17 December 2017, 16:29 IST

Konkan railway is deliberating on discontinuing the Mangalore- Madgaon intercity express due to lack of passengers. The intercity express was introduced during a railway budget two years ago. Due to an unscientific timetable and minimum halt, it is running under loss, it said.

Kundapur Rail Samiti in a press release stated that it had approached the railway authorities many times and requested them to reschedule the train timings and also urged them to give maximum stoppages to cover all the main cities. But due to lack of interest and support from elected representatives, the efforts went in vain.

Samiti President K Somashekar Shetty approached former MP Jayaprakash Hegde over the same, following which Hegde contacted Konkan railway MD Sanjay Gupta over the phone to reschedule the timings of intercity express. The MD has reportedly assured Hegde that he will discuss it with Southern Railways. The Samiti also urged to extend this train up to Dadar so that coastal people will be benefitted from it.
