Techies' solution for ORR traffic chaos may produce one more flyover

The increasing nightmare of traffic snarls on the  Outer Ring Road, especially along the stretch connecting the Hebbal flyover and Horamavu, may be eased with a touch of innovation from the tech community.

But their idea of adding one more layer to the already confusing labyrinth of flyovers in the area has triggered some concerns.

Consultants from Embassy Tech Village have proposed an extra ramp to link Nagawara and Veeranapallya flyovers, with an extension to the Manyata Tech Park. The Embassy Group has agreed to sponsor the project.

On Friday, the consultants made a presentation to Bengaluru Development Minister K J George, Mayor Sampath Raj, Additional Chief Secretary, Urban Development, Mahendra Jain and BBMP Commissioner Manjunath Prasad.

"We have obtained an in-principle approval from BBMP," said Rajendra Prasad, a director with the Embassy Group, who was part of Friday's meeting.

"We will get the go-ahead after submitting the details and the drawings to the BBMP and the BMRCL. We will be spending Rs 130 crore on the project," he  added.

The consultants said the flyover will be 1.67 km and it would ease traffic, both at the grade and elevated levels.

The flyover will have two loops - one extending into Manyata and the other on the opposite side - to eliminate traffic chaos at the grade level. This will be similar to the direct flyover link to Electronics City in existence.

The consultants have been asked to share the design with BMRCL and discuss the alignment to make sure that the flyover does not clash with the metro line coming up between Nagawara and Jakkur, Jain said.

An  official pointed out that the stretch of ORR has the maximum number of flyovers and the proposal by the BDA to extend the Hebbal flyover could add to the conundrum.
