Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil S has directed officials of the industries department to ensure that basic facilities including roads are provided to industrial areas in Dakshina Kannada district.

Chairing a Kaigarika Spandana meeting on Friday, he said that Baikampady is now transformed into an industrial area and many industries are functioning there. The density of the traffic to the industrial area on NH 66 has increased and taken a toll on the roads. There is a need to concrete the road leading to the industrial area, he said.

The meeting also discussed the problems arising due to the presence of three weighbridges inside the industrial area. The members stated that there was too much traffic congestion on the stretch. The DC directed that the works should be suspended temporarily as the road works are in progress.

He directed the officials to repair all the roads leading to industrial areas in the district.

Taking note of a plea by industrialists operating from Karnadu industrial area that they were facing problems due to power cuts, Senthil directed Mescom officials to provide a 110-kV direct line to the industrial area. At present, the Karnadu industrial area is receiving power supply from 33-kV line from Baikampady via Katipalla and Mulki.

The DC also appealed to industrialists to attend to some of the local development issues in their areas.
