Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has said that the people want Rahul Gandhi to lead Congress Party and his elevation to the post of All-India Congress Committee (AICC) president will have a big impact on the politics in the country.

During his stopover at Hubballi Airport on his way to Haveri district,   Siddaramaiah told media persons on Tuesday that appreciation about Rahul Gandhi becoming the AICC president cannot be expected from other parties.

The strength of Prime Minister Narendra Modi will be known in next elections, he predicted.

In the 130-year history of the party, those who were not the members of Nehru family had also become its presidents, he said.

Janashirvada Yatra

On the Congress party's proposed 'Janashirvada Yatra', Siddaramaiah said, "We have not yet thought about 'Janashirvada Yatra'. Therefore, there is no question of spending the government's money to prepare a bus for that."

He said, "As the chief minister, I am visiting various constituencies to lay foundation stone for development works or to inaugurate the completed works."

In reply to Union Minister Anantkumar Hegde and state BJP President B S Yeddyurappa criticising him, Siddaramaiah said, "Anantkumar Hegde is unfit to be a Union minister. Let Yeddyurappa first come out of the cases he is facing."

When asked about the charges against District In-charge Minister Vinay Kulkarni with regard to Zilla Panchayat member Yogishgouda Goudar murder case, he reiterated that the police will take action as per the law and they have freedom.
