Five killed as MUV collides with oil tanker near Kalaburagi

Five persons, including a father-son duo, of a marriage party were killed in a head-on collision between a multi-utility vehicle (Cruiser) and an oil tanker near Avarada (B) village in Kalaburagi taluk on Tuesday morning. Four people were severely injured.

The deceased are Gangadhar Sheelavant, 60, Bhimashankar Sheelavant, 42, Bhimashankar's son Ujjwal, 12, Anand Sheelavant, 32, and Prajwal 15.

While Gangadhar, Bhimashankar and Ujjwal died on the spot, Anand and Prajwal died in a hospital.

The injured are Prakash, 65, Rohit, 41, Nagaraj 15, and Mahantesh Sheelavant, 30. They have been admitted to a private hospital in the city. The victims, who are all relatives, are residents of Vairag village in Barsi taluk of Solapur district in neighbouring Maharashtra.

They were all on their way to the marriage of their relative Somanath Sheelavant   at the Revanasiddeshwara temple at Ratkal, Chincholi taluk in the district. Somanath had arrived at the temple on Monday.

The victims, along with others, had left Vairag in three Cruiser vehicles to attend the marriage on Tuesday.

When the ill-fated vehicle reached Avarada (B) village, an oil tanker carrying diesel and coming from the opposite direction rammed it, police said.

A case has been registered by the Kalaburagi police.
