Cinema week inaugurated

People should watch movies that have a social message, Udupi CMC president Meenakshi Madhava Bannanje said.

She addressed a gathering at the cinema week on 'Awareness can be created among the masses through cinema' as organised by the Department of Information and Public relations here on Friday.

As part of the cinema week, movies will be screened till November 23 at 9 am. The movies to be screened are 'Rama Rama re' (Nov 19), 'Madipu' (November 20), 'U Turn' (Nov 21), 'Allamma' (Nov 22) and 'Maarikondavaru' (Nov 23).

Writer Katyayini Kunjibettu said that watching Pather Panchali helped me to understand the beauty as well as sadness in life. Cinema helps in spreading the message of humanitarian values.

Tulu movie artiste Dinesh Attavara said that art should be promoted.

In Puttur

Inaugurating the cinema week, Puttur CMC president Jayanthi Balnad said that there is a need for movies that are socially relevant.

Puttur BEO Sukanya said that as part of cinema week, movies will be screened for some schoolchildren.
