Three persons suffered injuries while over 1,000 chickens crushed to death when a canter ferrying poultry chicken plunged 25-feet down from the flyover at Yeshwantpur in the city on Friday morning.

The police said, Ibrahim, a cleaner, has sustained grievous injuries in the accident while driver Shabbir and Altaf have suffered minor injuries. All the three are natives of Gokak in Belagavi district.

The goods vehicle was ferrying chickens from a poultry in Kurnool in Andhra Pradesh to Shivajinagar in the city. The driver of the canter lost control of the vehicle when the driver of the vehicle in front applied sudden brakes. The canter veered off the road, hit the side wall and fell into the junction, 25 feet below, the police said quoting the driver.

More than 1,000 chicks were crushed to the death in the accident.

The accident had caused traffic jam in and around Yeshwantpur junction for a while. The police rushed to the spot, shifted the injured to the Fortis Hospital and streamlined the traffic.

A case of negligence was registered against the driver. "The accident was due to over-speeding and we have taken up a case of rash, reckless, and negligent driving against the driver," said a senior police officer.
