More than seven lakh people visited Kadalekai Parishe, the annual groundnut fair, on Bull Temple Road in Basavanagudi.

Gurunath, the priest at Dodda Ganapathi temple, said that normally around 6 lakh to 7 lakh people visit the fair, but this year the number of visitors has increased. The fair had over 2,000 groundnut sellers coming from Kolar, Malur, Chamarajanagar, Ramanagaram, Chikkaballapur, Doddaballapur, Magadi, Hoskote, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. There were  more than 150 food carts.  "It's an opportunity for us to show our children how jatres (fairs) are held in villages. Children like toys and eatables sold at the fair," said Janaki, a visitor. A similar fair was organised in Malleshwaram this year.
