Wearing a gold bracelet and belt buckle, à la Salman Khan, proved costly for a 29-year-old man flying from Kuwait to Bengaluru. Officials of the customs’ Air Intelligence Unit (AIU) promptly seized the items that weighed a good 285 grams and are valued at Rs 8.68 lakh.

Naseeruddin Shaikh, a native of Andhra Pradesh, arrived at the Kempegowda International Airport (KIA) by the Kuwait Airways flight KU353F on November 12. When taken aside for questioning, he told AIU officials that he was a fan of Khan and had bought the bracelet and buckle in West Asia. Sleuths later found that the items were made of gold and coated with silver.

In another case, the AIU apprehended a 24-year-old man from Kozhikode, Abdullahil Jabir, as he arrived from Muscat on the Oman Air flight WY-281 on November 10. He carried a gas stove in his check-in luggage. A thorough check revealed that the stove’s gas-fitting connectors had gold rods concealed in them. The rods weighed 442 grams worth Rs 13.5 lakh.

In the third case, a 53-year-old man from Kozhikode was caught having concealed gold foil in the inner lining of his check-in trolley bag.
