JOIN US The Central Bureau of Investigation on Friday opposed the discharge petitions filed by former Union minister Dayanidhi Maran and his brother Kalanidhi Maran in the illegal telephone exchange case that cost the exchequer Rs 1.70 crore.
When the plea filed by the Maran brothers came up for hearing before Additional Judge for CBI cases S Natrajan, the investigative agency opposed it contending that chargesheet was already filed after a thorough probe.
The CBI also told the court that all the charges framed against the accused were supported by material and documentary evidences.
However, since the counsels for Maran brother sought time to reply for the additional affidavits filed by CBI, the court posted the case on November 21 for further hearing.
The CBI had registered a case on July 23, 2013 against the Maran brothers on the allegations of setting up telephone exchange, which was used to transfer high-resolution data, and did not raise bills for the same from 2004 to 2007, and thereby causing huge loss to the exchequer.
