Charles, Camilla land in 'poisonous gas chamber'

Thick smog greeted Prince Charles and his wife Camilla Parker as they arrived in New Delhi on Wednesday on a two-day tour to India.

As soon as the Prince of Wales and Duchess of Cornwall landed, UK journalists accompanying the royal couple  began tweeting about the high level of air pollution in the national capital and the shroud of thick smog.

"Charles & Camilla have landed in #NewDelhi for a whirlwind 10 engagements in 24 hrs #RoyalVisitIndia Pollution levels some of the worst ever," tweeted Rebecca English, royal correspondent of the Daily Mail, London.

"In some parts of #NewDelhi today breathing the polluted air is the equivalent of smoking 50 cigarettes. Shocking", she posted on Twitter. "Charles and Camilla land in Delhi smog described as a poisonous gas chamber," Chrish Ship, the royal editor of the ITV news tweeted.

V K Singh, minister of state for external affairs, and Y K Sinha, high commissioner of India in the UK, received the royal couple.

Meeting with PM

Prime Minister Narendra Modi held a meeting with Prince Charles and Camilla Parker Bowles.

Prince Charles and Modi discussed a wide range of issues, including that of the upcoming Commonwealth Heads of Government Meeting, which would take place in April 2018 in the UK. They also discussed other issues like climate change, sustainable development goals and economic cooperation.
