'Road Doctors' to heal City's pothole-ridden roads

After much hue and cry about delay in fixing potholes, Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) is implementing 'Road Doctors' to fill potholes on a pilot basis.

The project was kick-started, on Sunday, near Galaxy theatre, off MG Road, and on Residency Cross Road.

The Palike has undertaken the project with Nu-phalt, a UK-based company.

Potholes are filled using a machine. The emulsion will be heated at 108 degrees, which tightly binds all materials used in filling potholes. No wastage will remain on the road after filling potholes.

"The machine uses an environment friendly polymer mix to fill the potholes. This will last for more than two years," said Mayor R Sampath Raj.

When asked about filling the remaining potholes, he said, "We have completed filling 90% of potholes. We will be completing filling the potholes within a week or two. We will be asphalting the roads completely after a few days."

The Mayor went on an inspection spree on a two-wheeler on Saturday night to examine the condition of roads in the city. He mainly covered areas in South and has found that the engineers have failed to fill even small potholes. He inspected Siddaiah Road, Krumbigal Road, Bannerghatta Main Road, Tavarekere Main Road and Thilak Nagar Main Road.
