Last Updated 24 October 2017, 21:31 IST

Sathanur police inspector Mallesh K shot a history-sheeter in the leg after the latter attacked the police team with a knife in a bid to escape at Boregowdannadoddi early on Tuesday morning. The injured police sub-inspector, Ananth Ram, and the history-sheeter, Chandra Kumar alias Chandru, have been admitted to hospital. The condition of both of them is said to be stable.

According to police, Chandru was wanted in a murder case registered with the Sathanur police. He is accused of murdering an elderly woman identified as Kempamma on September 26, from whom he had robbed a gold chain weighing 70-75 gm, the police said.

A team of police pursuing the case received information that Chandru had come to his house in Boregowdannadoddi. Around 2 am, Mallesh, along with Sathanur PSI Bhaskar, PSI Ananth Ram, ASI Kodihalli Kumaraswamy and a few other officers, surrounded his house. Chandru, who was present in the house, picked a knife and assaulted Ananth Ram who was injured in his left hand. Mallesh warned Chandru to drop his knife by firing a round in the air, but Chandru did not pay heed. The inspector then shot Chandru in the leg and shifted both the police officer and the rowdy to the Kanakapura government hospital.
