Set up Channamma chair: Seer

Madiwal Rajayogindra Swamiji of Rajaguru Samsthana Kalmath, who graced the inaugural programme of Kittur Utsav, urged the State government to establish a chair in the name of Rani Channamma.

The  seer called for concrete measures to sensitise for posterity the exploits of Amtur Balappa, Sangolli Rayanna and the worrier queen besides taking their heroics to the world. The seer took objection against clubbing Vijayotsava and Jayanti celebrations. Kittur Utsav was being celebrated to remember the victorious rebellion of Rani Channamma against the British who ignited the freedom struggle.

The government should organise jayanti celebration on different date without altering Vijayotsava celebration.

MLA D B Inamdar, presiding over the programme said Kittur had got its due and had been given taluk status, funds had been released for the construction of the mini vidhan should while the foundation stone for the construction of the soudha will be laid in a month.

Inamdar also said measures had been taken for overall development of Kittur, as many as 64 water bodies in Kittur and Bailhongal will be filled with water for which Rs 248 crore had been sanctioned.

To ensure permanent drinking water facility a project to draw water from Malaprabha was under pipeline he  informed. The inaugural function was followed by a series of cultural program.  Vocalist Ajjayya Ujjinkop, renowned vocalist Padmashri Venkatesh Kumar, enthralled the audience with their classical renditions.
