Police attempting to dilute issue of illegal slaughterhouses: NGO

Last Updated 21 October 2017, 20:17 IST

Members of the Animal Welfare Board of India (AWBI) have said that the Bengaluru city police were trying to dilute the issue of illegal animal slaughter and slaughterhouses in the city.

Addressing reporters on Saturday, AWBI member Neeru Gupta said city police commissioner T Suneel Kumar was trying to divert the main issue by accusing animal rights activist Nandini Matiyani of faking her injuries.

Nandini had filed a complaint saying she was attacked by a mob when she went to check on illegal slaughterhouses at Tipu Circle in Avalahalli off Kanakapura Road a week ago.

The commissioner, however, denied the charges and said action has been taken according to the evidence available at their end. He said that they have taken action with regard to the Avalahalli and the Yelahanka incidents by arresting miscreants and rescued the animals.

Members Dr V S Mishra and Shivam Channa said they have given out names of the kingpin in the illegal trade. He also said slaughterhouses on Tannery Road are not following prescribed guidelines.
