Constable suspended for post against PM

A constable from Maharashtra has been suspended for putting up a post against Prime Minister Narendra Modi on WhatsApp.

Ramesh Shinde was posted as the bodyguard of former Maharashtra revenue minister and Congress MLA Balasaheb Thorat.

The suspension followed an investigation by the Cyber Crime Cell of the Ahmednagar Police.
Incidentally, Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis also holds the home portfolio.

This development comes close on the heels of Saturday's statement by NCP president Sharad Pawar who came out in support of people who had been victims of social media.

"You can bluntly criticise me. Say anything you want freely. Tell me honestly where my party or I am going wrong...you should not be worried to speak out," he had said at a meeting.

On Monday, in an editorial in Saamana, the Shiv Sena slammed the BJP for being "intolerant" towards criticism on social media, pointing out that it was this platform that greatly helped the saffron party win elections.

"The BJP government's stand is that the President, prime minister and chief ministers should not be insulted and that people should be patient. However, where did this call for patience and good manners disappear when Manmohan Singh was time and again made fun of when he was the prime minister?" the editorial stated.
