Whether you were a Manchester United or Liverpool supporter, Karnataka Trade Promotion Organisation (KTPO) was the place to be on Saturday as the Premier League Live event kicked-off it’s two-day extravaganza.

The constant drizzle did little to damper the spirit of fans as the frenzy hit it’s pinnacle with close to 20,000 fans in attendance at Whitefield.

With over 30,000 people expected over the weekend to witness the screening of five Premier League matches, the attendance reached a whooping 20,000 people as the two heavyweights played out an entertaining draw.

Richard Masters, Managing Director of the Premier League, said: “I’m delighted with the outcome of the event. We probably have 20,000-30,000 people here and it’s great to see them come out and enjoy themselves.”

With former legends Alan Shearer, Robert Pires and John Barnes seen enjoying a slice of the action, Bengaluru FC defender John Johnson turned spectator for the day.

“Always nice to be fan. Really exciting to be here and mix with so many spectators. It’s fantastic that they have come despite the weather, and come out in their jerseys. But it’s a shame there are no Middlesbrough fans here!” said the lanky centre-back with a grin.

It wasn’t just the players that were in force but also BFC manager Albert Roca, a staunch Barcelona fan.

Refusing to reveal where his allegiance lay for the big clash of the day as Jose Mourinho’s side were pitted against Juergen Klopp’s men, the Spaniard quipped: “I like football so I’m enjoying my time here. You know I’m a Barcelona supporter so I’m paying more attention to the tactics.”

After some coaxing, Roca revealed with a chuckle “I’ll probably support the team with more Spanish players. On a serious note though, I think it’ll be United.”

Fans had the opportunity of getting clicked with the Premier League trophy but one had to really brave the weather and enormous queues before documenting the event.

Harish Kumar, an IT professional, was one of the few that patiently waited two-and-a-half hours. “I got into the line about 4 and could manage to get out only by 6:40. But it was worth it.”

With clubs also setting up stalls, fans had plenty to keep themselves occupied.

The event will conclude on Sunday with two screenings as Newcastle United take on Southampton and Everton making the trip to seaside Brighton and Hove Albion.

Fans can register themselves at the venue.
