Irani gang of 13 held for snatching 42 chains

Police say they have solved 42 cases of chain-snatching across Bengaluru by apprehending 13 members of the Irani gang.

Three special teams of the police seized 2.1 kg of gold jewellery and other valuables worth Rs 65.5 lakh from the interstate gang.

At a press conference on Friday, Bengaluru Police Commissioner T Suneel Kumar handed over the valuables to the rightful owners.He also announced a cash reward of Rs 1.5 lakh for his men who solved the case.

The suspects are Salman Abbas Syed (28), of Anantapur district, Andhra Pradesh; Qarar Hussain Syed (36), of Thane, Maharashtra; Mohammad Mujahid (21), of Gandhinagar; Syed Fouzan Mohammed (19), of Tannery Road; Mohammad Zeeshan Ali (24), Syed Saif (20), both of Pillanna Garden; Athavus Samad Sheikh (28), of HBR Layout; Mohammad Syed, 31, of Irani Colony, Kalaburagi; Prajwal Kumar (22), Tabrez (30), Arun Kumar (36), Mubarak Nazeer (22) and Siddique (27).

Police said the suspects stole two-wheelers from other cities and brought them to Bengaluru to commit the crimes.

Seven motorcycles have been seized from them, of which two were stolen from Sangli and Bidar.
