Showers wreak havoc

Rain has continued to wreak havoc at many places in the state. Heavy showers lashed the districts of Tumakuru, Kolar and Chikkaballapur from Monday night to Tuesday morning. As many as 110 houses collapsed in Kolar district due to the downpour. More than 20 houses came down due to the showers in Tumakuru city.

Two boulders rolled down a hillock and blocked the Tumakuru-Devarayanadurga Road near the Namada Chilume due to heavy rain, throwing traffic out of gear.

Heavy rain accompanied by thunder and lightning lashed Kalaburagi district on the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Bagwan tank in Indiranagar thanda, Sedam taluk, breached and flooded the surrounding fields. The inflow into River Kagina has increased.

An 80-year-old man died and six children were injured when the wall of a house collapsed on them at Vadnal in Shahpur taluk of Kalaburagi district. Ayyappa Mareppa died on the spot, while the children were rescued from under the debris by villagers. The wall had weakened due to overnight rain.

A 28-year-old nurse working at the general hospital was struck dead by lightning during heavy rain at Devadurga in Raichur district on Monday night. The victim, Neelamma Sangappa, was on her way home from work when the incident occurred.

Mysuru city and surrounding areas received heavy downpour, accompanied by thunder and lightning, for more than half an hour on Tuesday evening.
