Advocates boycott proceedings in HC

Although three judges of the high court did sit through to hear some important matters where interim orders were to be extended, most of the advocates refrained from attending the proceedings.

Most of the cases listed were adjourned and given a date. The matters listed before the Chief Justice of Karnataka were adjourned for a week.

Although most of the clients were informed about the boycott, some of them visited the court and had to return due to the protest.

Ashok Nijagannanavar, registrar general of the high court said there is a huge pendency of (more than two lakh cases) and just around 25 judges to hear them. The bigger issue, which is being overlooked, is the appointment of judges to the court, which is the need of the hour, he said. However, the lower courts, including the city civil court, sessions court, Mayo Hall court and the magistrate court were not affected by the boycott
