R Sampath Raj went around the city to inspect the rain-affected localities on Thursday evening, hours after being elected Bengaluru’s new mayor.
His first stop was Shanthinagar, one of the worst-hit areas. Since the locality experiences waterlogging even after small spells of rainfall, he asked stormwater drain officials to submit a detailed report on a permanent solution to the problem.
He also visited HSR Layout Sector 6 and inspected the ongoing work on stormwater drains. A parallel drain is being built to reduce the flow of water in the stormwater drain.
Sampath Raj, along with BBMP Commissioner N Manjunath Prasad, also held a meeting with residents’ welfare associations and said the parallel drain work would get over by February.
