The Karnataka State Pre-University Lecturers Association met the chairperson of the 6th pay commission, M R Srinivas Murthy, to discuss their demands.

The association said that lecturers have been facing disparity in pay from the past 20 years. To fix this, the basic pay should be increased from Rs 22,800 to Rs 28,100.

They demanded that lecturers who have completed PhD, or have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) or State Eligibility Test (SLET) should be promoted as assistant professors in degree colleges and their pay should be hiked twice a year.
