I will wait for my chance: Lahiri

Last Updated 28 September 2017, 18:30 IST

So, I am going to sit out the first day of the President’s Cup. Even though I was raring to go, I can understand our captain Nick Price’s decision.

Definitely, I wanted to go out there. I’m eager to go out there and perform. But at the end of the day, it’s important to have the dynamics and the whole flow of the team right.

There’s a lot of good reasons behind captain Price’s decisions today about the pairings. We’re going to keep that to ourselves, but obviously I’m going to be looking forward to getting my chance.

As for the pairings, they are really interesting. The US team has some set pairings like Jordan (Spieth) and Patrick (Reed), and now there is a great pair in Dustin Johnson and Matt Kuchar and of course the pair leading them out will be Justin Thomas, who is in red-hot form and Rickie Fowler, always a great shot in team play.

From our side, Hideki and Charl Schwartzel are great and I also feel rookie Emiliano and Si Woo could surprise.

Louis (Oosthuizen) and Branden (Grace) are proven winners on our side, with Grace being 5-0 last time.

And it is always great to see someone like Phil Mickelson, he is so good and he has been at it for years. Phil and Kevin Kisner meet Jason (Day) and the in-form Marc (Leishman).

Our team is really up for this. We are all playing good. We have got a very interesting lineup tomorrow.

For me, I’m just waiting, when my opportunity comes, to go out there and be ready. It’s a fantastic week, super excited.

A few questions came up on the thing that Nick said that he felt I was good team man. Well, that is something for my teammates to tell. When Nick said that most of the guys wanted me on the team, it did feel great. I spoke about this to a couple of people. Adam (Hadwin) and I are not playing the first day. So, I’m looking to come out early and get through my work early in the day.

I’ll probably go out and support probably the rookies. We’ll go out and guest behind Emi (Emiliano Grillo) and Si-Woo (Kim). They are going to need that encouragement. Golf is a crazy game. A lot of funny things can happen.
