Last Updated 26 September 2017, 18:39 IST

The phone-in programme of Mayor Kavitha Sanil on Tuesday drew 25 grievances.

While majority of the complaints were related to the pathetic condition of roads and lack of bus shelters, the mayor promised to take up the work immediately.

Caller Rakesh said that the Kankanady Bypass and the road from Pumpwell to Fr Muller Hospital are in pathetic condition, causing inconvenience to the vehicle users. Kavitha Sanil said that the patchwork of Kankanady Bypass will be taken up within two days.

Problem on footpath

Another caller said that the grass grown on the footpath of Kankanady Bypass is causing inconvenience to especially senior citizens who go for their morning walk. Further, the caller said that lorry drivers and public too answer nature’s call beside the road at Pumpwell. The caller said that the City Corporation should construct a public toilet at Pumpwell. The soil dumped beside the road should also be cleared, to facilitate the movement of pedestrians.

Walter D’Souza from Jeppinamogaru said that the mud road in their area is in pathetic condition. “Autorickshaws fail to ply, even the ambulance cannot reach the area in case of emergency. The stretch is 500 metre and there are 20 to 25 houses in the vicinity. Even if the civic body provides dust or any other materials like gravel, we will only make the road motorable.”

Sanil directed the engineer to prepare an estimate to lay the road within two days.

Sandeep Surathkal said that the stretch from Kana to MRPL is in a deplorable condition, causing inconvenience to the public. The patch work was not taken up properly. Even the grass and weeds that have grown beside the road should be cleared.

Nanjundappa said that the Chokkabetty Cross road in Surathkal should be repaired.

Caller Balakrishna said that the service road at Lohith Nagara in Kuntikana has been damaged following the work on drains. To this, Mayor said that an estimate of Rs 19 lakh has been prepared to repair the road and the work would be started shortly.

Bus shelter

Rameez from Bykampady said that there is no bus shelter from Kuloor to Surathkal. In the absence of shelters, commuters have to face either the scorching sun or the rain as the problem is perennial now. All the bus shelters were removed to facilitate the four-laning of the national highway.

The mayor said that construction of bus shelter proposals has been included in the Smart City project. Further, the MCF has promised to construct bus shelters after the MCC identifies the locations, under CSR activity.

Another caller too said that there is no bus shelter at Rao and Rao Circle in the State Bank area.

Garbage collection

When Margaret from Adumaroli said that door-to-door garbage collection is not implemented effectively in the locality, the mayor directed the officials to ensure that door-to-door garbage collection is taken up from Wednesday itself and the bin to dump garbage in the vicinity should be removed immediately.
