Bengaluru is only third in India's rich list

 The IT capital of India, Bengaluru,  ranks third on the list of richest Indians. Mumbai and New Delhi are in the first two places in that order.

Bengaluru has 51 individuals, whose networth is at least Rs 1,000 crore, according to Hurun India Rich List 2017  released on Monday. The list includes 23 new faces from Bengaluru. Mumbai tops the list with 182 rich people, while Delhi comes second with 117 rich Indians.

Outside Bengaluru, there are four individuals with networth of Rs 1,000 crore or more, taking Karnataka’s tally of rich people to 55. In Maharashtra, 32 individuals with networth of above Rs 1,000 crore are non-Mumbaikars.

It is interesting to note that 13 individuals have migrated to Karnataka, 23 to Maharashtra and 22 to Delhi to establish their businesses.

The national list is led by Mukesh Ambani, who has seen his networth jump 58% to Rs 2,57,900 crore. A distant second position is taken by Dilip Shanghvi of Sun Pharma with networth of Rs 89,000 crore, followed by L N Mittal (Rs 88,200 crore), Shiv Nadar (Rs 85,100 crore).

Azim Premji, who also leads the list among the richest Bengalurians, is in the fifth slot with networth of Rs 79,300 crore.

City’s richie rich

In Bengaluru, Premji is followed by Jithendra Virwani of Embassy Property Developments, whose networth is Rs 17,600 crore, Kiran Mazumdar-Shaw of Biocon (Rs 15,400 crore), and Ranjan Pai of Manipal Education and Medical (Rs 8,400 crore).

The garden city seems to have scored high on entreprenuership zeal as well. Among the top five self-made richest individuals under 40, Bengaluru has three entries with Binny Bansal of Flipkart fame leading the list with a networth of Rs 5,400 crore. Company’s co-founder Sachin Bansal stands third on the list with an equivalent networth. Byju Raveendran of Think and Learn is fifth on list with a networth of Rs 1,000 crore.

Among women entreprenuers, another Bengalurian, Ambiga Subramanian of Mu Sigma is fourth on the list with networth of Rs 2,500 crore.

Ajay Piramal of Piramal Enterprise has seen the highest jump. His networth has jumped 186% to Rs 42,900 crore. Patanjali’s Acharya Balkrishna has made a breakthrough to the top 10 richest Indians’s list and is currently poised at eighth slot with a networth of Rs 70,000 crore.
