Police arrested a group of youths for assaulting two men who are said to have stolen cows and illegally slaughtered them.

The police arrested Vasishta, Abhilash, Raghavendra, Prabhakar, Kiran Kumar and Jagadish for the assault on Eshwar Naika and Zabi for the illegal slaughter of the cattle in their house at Billodi village of the taluk.

They have been remanded in judicial custody.
Cases have been registered against Naika and Jobi under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

Farmers and women from the village staged a protest in front of the police station, saying the police were trying to protect those slaughtering cattle. Naika’s wife Sharadamma has also filed a complaint, saying her husband was illegally slaughtering cows to help beef traders.
