Bengaluru edge past Mumbai

Former Manchester United star Paul Scholes led from the front as Bengaluru Royals recorded a close 3-2 win over Mumbai Warriors at the Koramangala Indoor Stadium here on Sunday.

Scholes opened the scoring for Bengaluru in the 2nd minute but Lucas Francini netted the equaliser for Mumbai 10 minutes later. Carlos Corvo Gonzalves then put the Mumbai ahead in the 30th minute.

However, the lead didn’t last long as Raducio King restored parity for Benglauru in the 32nd minute.

Four minutes later, Renzo Grasso found the back of the net to put Bengaluru ahead.

There were some nervy moments late in the tie but Bengaluru kept calm to clinch a thrilling win much to the delight of a packed crowd.

In the second game, Chennai Singhams registered a hard-fought 3-2 win over Kerala Cobras.

Hernan Crespo struck an early opener for Chennai in the 6th minute but Ansh Gupta made it all square for Kerala with a fine goal two minutes later.

Crespo completed his brace in the 24th minute as Chennai reclaimed their advantage.

Angel Claudino then doubled Chennai’s lead in the 26th minute.

Kerala pushed hard and pulled one back through Michel Salgado in the 38th minute but it wasn’t enough as they went down 2-3.

Results: Mumbai Warriors: 2 (Lucas Francini 12th, Carlos Corvo Gonzalves 30th) lt to Bengaluru Royals: 3 (Paul Scholes 2nd, Raducio King 32nd, Renzo Grasso 36th).

Chennai Singhams: 3 (Hernan Crespo 6th, 24th, Angel Claudino 26th) bt Kerala Cobras: 2 (Ansh Gupta 8th, Michel Salgado 38th).
