School dropout saves boy from drowning

A school dropout saved the life of a boy who was drowning in Tunga canal at Navule near here on Saturday.

According to eyewitnesses, Aneesh(10) and Darshan (12), students of a government school, were swimming in the canal. Both the boys began to drown and were screaming for help.

Krishna Naik, who heard their cries, jumped into the canal and rescued Darshan with the help of local residents. But Aneesh was washed away in water. Police and the residents congratulated the boy. The boy was honoured at the valedictory of Children’s Dasara organised by city corporation at Kuvempu Rangamandira. The firefighting staff and divers were searching for Aneesh till late into the night.
