BSY told to appear before cops in abduction bid case

The police have slapped a notice on state BJP president B S Yeddyurappa, directing him to appear before them in connection with an attempt to kidnap case.

In the notice, the former chief minister has been asked to appear before the Malleswaram sub-division ACP A R Badiger on September 28 at 10.30 am at the ACP’s office, Mahalakshmipuram, for questioning regarding the abduction bid of leader of the Opposition in the Legislative Council K S Eshwarappa’s personal assistant Vinay Bidre.

The notice was issued on September 20 under CrPC Section 91 (an officer’s powers to issue summons/written order to a person to share information/documents before the police).

According to the police, N R Santosh, Yeddyurappa’s personal assistant and the prime suspect in the kidnap case, is the mastermind in the case.

The police had searched Yeddyurappa’s residence at Dollar’s Colony on July 16 night based on a tip-off that Santosh was hiding there.

Following the late-night search, Yeddyurappa had dashed off a letter to the then city police commissioner Praveen Sood complaining about the police search without a warrant. He had suspected that the police were determined to fix Santosh as an accused in the case.

The abduction occurred on May 11, reportedly over a CD which reportedly contained intimate scenes of Santosh with a model. Santosh decided to abduct Vinay as the latter had the CD and planned to release it.

A gang had intercepted Vinay’s car at Mahalakshmi Layout, while he was returning home. The suspects attacked Vinay and tried to kidnap him. Vinay raised an alarm, prompting passersby to rush to his rescue, following which the gang fled.

Santosh had absconded after the complaint was filed. He had obtained a conditional anticipatory bail.

The police have registered cases against Santosh and his associates under IPC Sections 143 (unlawful assembly), 323 (voluntarily causing hurt ), 325 (voluntarily causing grievous hurt), 363 (kidnapping ), 511 (of fences punishable with imprisonment for life or other imprisonment), 331 (causing grievous hurt to extort confession, or to compel restoration of property) and 120 B (criminal conspiracy).
