Metro travellers had “star commuters” for company at Ambedkar Metro station (Vidhana Soudha) on Friday evening as Kannada film actor and former minister M H Ambarish and his wife Sumalatha boarded the train at the station.

Sandalwood’s Rebel Star and his actor wife had gone there to take the train to reach their house at Jayanagar. It was the couple’s first Metro ride in Bengaluru.

Ambarish had gone to Vidhana Soudha to attend to a few jobs of his constituency, Mandya. Sumalatha had accompanied him.

The couple decided to return by Metro train and didn’t inform anybody about their decision. “We could reduce pollution and reach our destination at the earliest by riding through Metro. In fact, this small initiative would encourage others to prefer the Metro over personal vehicles,” Ambarish told DH.

The couple said that they deliberately didn’t inform others about their Metro ride as it would have attracted many of their fans, creating problems at Metro stations.

The couple boarded the train around 4 pm and reached Kempegowda station, Majestic. They changed the train and alighted at Jayanagar station.

Many passengers inside the train competed with each other to vacate seats for the couple. A few of them even took selfies with the couple.

After alighting at the Jayanagar station, the couple posed for a picture and left for their home.

“Metro is the best gift for Bengaluru as it reduces pollution and saves time. I request public to give up personal vehicles and use the Metro regularly,” the actor added.
