P C Mohan MP seeks more suburban trains to Whitefield

Bengaluru Central Lok Sabha member P C Mohan has urged the Railways to introduce suburban trains between Cantonment and Whitefield. He has also sought stoppage of trains at Mahadevapura near the Krishnarajapuram diesel loco shed.

The BJP MP, in a letter to Divisional Railway Manager R S Saxena said: "Two new MEMUs have arrived in Bengaluru Division and (I) demand that they be pressed into service immediately to enhance connectivity and run more services, especially during peak hours."

Suggesting that Platforms 1A, 1B, 3 and 4 at Cantonment station can be used for suburban services, Mohan said he was willing to release funds from the MPLADs.

“The single trip run between Byappanahalli and Whitefield at present is not enough to meet demands of commuters. I pressed the DRM to run two more trains on the route,” Mohan told DH.

Mainline electric multiple units (MEMU) are an essential part of the suburban rail service with no need for reversing the locomotive at the terminal stations. Two new rakes (each comprising a set of 12 cars) were spotted in Banaswadi MEMU shed last week.

Mahadevapura stoppage

Noting that the suburban rail ridership was seeing a steady increase after introduction of dedicated services, Mohan urged the DRM to provide stoppage for trains at Mahadevapura, where the necessary infrastructure is already in place.

"Earlier too, Hoodi was the only a halt station. A full-fledged station was built using MPLAD funds as a result of which thousands of commuters are benefiting daily," the MP states in another letter, providing a list of trains for which there is a demand for stoppage.

MP questions skywalk work delay

Mohan has questioned the delay in building a foot over bridge (FoB) at Hoodi railway station for which he had sanctioned Rs 1.1 crore under MPLAD funds.

"The Bengaluru Urban DC office has already a issued a cheque for Rs 83 lakh on February 28, 2017. However, I am pained to note that the railways have not started the work," he said, adding that the FoB was necessary as commuters were putting themselves at risk while crossing the tracks to reach the other side of the road.

Stating that the number of suburban commuters was increasing every day, he said works should be taken up without further delay for their convenience.
