A three-year-old Iraqi boy, who underwent a medical procedure to treat the complications after surgeries were performed on him to treat a congenital heart disease, is recovering well at Sakra World Hospital here.

He underwent two surgical procedures in other hospitals, but he developed an infection after consuming food and drink as they seeped into the lungs. He then underwent a procedure for placing certain tubes for nutritional supply at a hospital in Iraq. The tubes had to be closed as he developed complications.

The boy was brought to Sakra Hospital, where doctors stabilised him with chest physiotherapy (whereby breathing is improved by the indirect removal of mucus from the breathing passages). Medication was given to improve his heart function. He also underwent a medical procedure to provide a means of feeding when oral intake is not adequate.

“This was a very challenging case for us, keeping in mind the age of the baby as well as the heart problem and the complex surgery that the team at Sakra had to perform,” said Dr C Ramachandra, senior consultant & HOD, paediatric surgery, Sakra World Hospital.
