This festive season, besides discounts, jobs will be coming your way.
Amazon, Flipkart and Paytm are not just readying to offer heavy discounts, but are also offering thousands of jobs. The industry is set to witness recruitment of at least one lakh temps (temporary workers) across the country.
During the four-month (September–December) festive period, Bengaluru alone will see in excess of 10,000 jobs, according to recruitment firms.
Bengaluru is home to two of India’s largest ecommerce players - Flipkart and Amazon.
“If you take sectors, both FMCG and FMCD makers are recruiting more temporary staffers. With steep discounts, there will be increase in online orders, and they need to recruit more delivery boys to achieve last-mile connectivity,” said Yeshab Giri, Vice President, Specialities and IT Staffing, Randstad India, an HR consulting firm.
The jobs can be categorised in terms of warehouse activities like pickers and packers, sorters, last mile delivery like delivery executives, retail sales executives, specialised chefs, In shop demonstrators, among others, said Sudeep Sen, Assistant Vice President, TeamLease Services.
“Also, with formalising on the employment sector with the impact of GST - movement from informal to formal sector, there are jobs which are in a spike and with adherence to legitimate compliances,” he added.
Hiring to go on
The hiring predominantly started from early September and will run till New Year, and these temps will earn anywhere between Rs 15,000 and Rs 25,000 a month depending on the experience and skills, said Giri. To meet the growing demand this year, Flipkart has expanded its temporary workforce by another 15,000.
Amazon recently announced that it has created more than 22,000 seasonal positions across its India network of fulfillment centres, delivery stations and customer service sites for this festive season.
“We are enhancing our teams significantly with 2X the number of associates working in the Amazon fulfilment network and customer service sites. This enhancement will be instrumental in driving an exceptional experience during the upcoming Great Indian Festive Sale. The over 22,000 seasonal associates will help in augmenting our capabilities to serve our customers better and enable us to deliver consistently high levels of customer experience,” said Akhil Saxena, Vice President, Customer Fulfilment, Amazon India.
These positions have been created largely in Mumbai, Delhi, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru, Ahmedabad and many other cities across the country.
