Bengalurean, 2 other Indian students to join as Scholastic kid reporters

Three Indians, including one from Bengaluru, are among 44 kid reporters who will cover current events, breaking news, entertainment stories and sporting events from around the world this school year.

Rohan Saketh Devulapalli (Bengaluru), Ananyaa Chopra (from Delhi) and Roopkatha Roy (Kolkata) were selected from more than 400 total applicants to report from India.

The student reporters for the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps are aged between 10 and 14.

Suzanne McCabe, the editor of the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps, said that by reporting "age-appropriate, high-interest news stories", the kid reporters are "helping their peers gain an appreciation for quality journalism and a broader understanding of the world so that they can become well-informed community members and voters of the future."

Since 2000, the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps has delivered "news for kids, by kids."

In the 2016-17 programme year, the kid reporters closely covered events, including the US presidential election, the International Consumer Electronics Show and the Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show.

Kid reporters also interviewed notable public figures such as conservationist Jane Goodall, tennis player Andy Roddick, actress Glenn Close, author and actor Chris Colfer, actress and comedian Whoopi Goldberg, author and illustrator Dav Pilkey and skateboarder Tony Hawk among others, Scholastic said.

The other student reporters in the list are from the US, the UK, Australia, China, Hong Kong and Thailand.

Stories by Scholastic News kid reporters appear on the Scholastic News Kids Press Corps website and in issues of Scholastic classroom magazines, which reach more than 25 million students.
