Crowdfunding for education of girls

Crowdfunding has come to the aid of a trust that is providing hostel facility to 20 girls from rural areas.

Karwar-based Prem Ashram Charitable Trust campaigned for raising funds through an online portal to educate children in Uttara Kannada district. “Many students from rural villages of the district are economically backward and discontinue their education after 7th grade because of lack of high schools within a walking distance and lack of public transportation in their area. Because of which poor parents eventually send their daughters for household work,” the trust said in a release.

It said the trust aimed at raising Rs 4.8 lakh to support 20 children a year but saw a huge response with the funds reaching Rs 5 lakh.
