Hanur (Chamarajanagar district), dhns: The Ramapura police have arrested a close associate of the slain forest brigand Veerappan, who was absconding since 23 years, at his native on Tuesday evening.

Murugesh, a resident of Athuru village near Gopinatham, is the accused. A case was registered against him at Ramapura police on November 30, 1991 in connection with the kidnap of Ramamurthy, son of mining baron Sampangiramaiah. Murugesh was produced before the court as the fourth accused and was imprisoned for three-and-a-half years. He came out after completing the term and had gone absconding since then, without appearing for the court proceedings. Ramapura police arrested him at his native on Tuesday evening.
