Hubballi to host KPL final leg from today

Last Updated 13 September 2017, 19:11 IST

The final leg of the Karnataka Premier League will begin here on Thursday at the Rajnagar stadium with hosts Hubli Tigers taking on Mysuru Warriors.

Following the completion of the Bengaluru and Mysuru legs, Belagavi Panthers and Hubli are tied at six points from three games. The Panthers, however, occupy the top spot with a better net run-rate of 0.762 as opposed to Hubli’s 0.243.

Namma Shivamogga, with two wins and one loss from four matches, are placed third with five points. Defending champions Ballari Tuskers (2 points) haven’t had a great start to their title defence and are lying at the sixth spot with just a solitary victory. The Bengaluru Blasters, playing in their debut season, have produced a shoddy display to lie last in the table without a single win.

The Panthers’ strong run has been fashioned by a consistent show from all-rounder Stuart Binny, who is the leading run-getter with 165 runs at a strike rate of 148.64. The seasoned campaigner, who has scored two fifties, has bagged six wickets as well.

With 156 runs at a strike rate of 126.82, M Nidesh is in fine form for the Bijapur Bulls and the right-hander stands second in the list.

Left-arm spinner Abhishek Sakuja has been instrumental in setting up wins for Hubli Tigers and tops the bowling charts with 11 wickets.

Right-arm medium pacer Abhishek Bhat has been the lone bright spot in Bengaluru’s disastrous campaign, bagging nine wickets to be behind Sakuja.

A total of total of seven matches will be played before the semifinals (Sept 20 and 22). The title clash is on September 23.
