Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple, the famous religious destination devoted to Lord Shiva, was converted into an abode of Lord Sri Krishna as little Krishnas had their day out in the temple. Children took part in the Sri Krishna Vesha competitions organised by Kalkura Prathishthana on the occasion of Sri Krishna Janmashthami on Wednesday.

Tiny tots were seen clad in Krishna’s signature yellow coloured attire with peacock feathers tucked in their headgear, golden flutes clutched in their tiny hands and clanging anklets on their tender feet. The kids were seen busy playing pranks and antics while mothers took selfies with their adorable Krishnas. Several toddler Krishnas were seen hogging ice creams and butter while some infant Krishnas fell asleep on their mother’s laps.

Krishna fancy dress competitions were conducted in various categories based on age-group such as ‘Kanda Krishna’ (infant), ‘Muddu Krishna’ (toddler), ‘Thunta Krishna’ (mischievous), ‘Balakrishna’ (young), ‘Kishora Krishna’ (adolescent), ‘Sri Krishna’ (adult) and so on. Along with children, their parents too took part in Yashoda Krishna and Vasudeva Krishna categories. Several ‘Radha-Krishna’ couples were also seen. From young Krishnas in cradle to mighty ones defeating demons, the performances by ‘Krishnas’ amused the gathering. However, the off-stage impromptu activities were more delightful than the on-stage acts.

Various other competitions such as singing, drawing, rangoli and quiz were also conducted on the theme of the day.

Ravikiran and Keerthana, parents of Hrithik Kiran from Vamanjoor, who took part in ‘Muddu Krishna’, said that it was the first time that their child had taken part in the Krishna Vesha competition. “It feels good to see the child clad in the Lord’s attire”, they said.

‘Chirayu’, a six-month-old kid of Sandeep and Pramoda from Bondanthila, was among the youngest participants.

Gracing the inaugural function, Kateel Sri Durgaparameshwari Temple priest Lakshminarayana Asranna said that Lord Krishna’s life and values hold a great significance and are relevant at all times. Competitions like Krishna Vesha inspire children to follow the values of Lord Krishna.

Kalkura Pratishthana and Dakshina Kannada District Kannada Sahitya Parishat president Pradeep Kumar Kalkura, Kadri Sri Manjunatha Temple Managing Trustee A J Shetty and Karnataka Bank Non-Executive Chairman P Jayaram Bhat were also present.
