Indian origin amateur golfer Rayhan Thomas created a stir on Tuesday as he blasted nine consecutive birdies to join an extraordinary league.

The youngster achieved that feat in a jaw-dropping performance of ten-under 61 in the second round of the Dubai Creek Open at his home course the Dubai Creek Golf & Yacht Club.

Thomas, who very rarely competes on the Indian tour, kick-started his birdie fest from the second hole which eventually ended on the 10th hole. Thomas then parred the next two holes before holing out a 10th birdie on the 13th to end at 131, two shots behind leader MG Keyser of South Africa.

As per records, only two men have fired nine birdies on the trot. Mark Calcavecchia did it at the 2009 RBC Canadian Open while Bernd Wiesberger emulated the feat at the Maybank Championship in Malaysia earlier this year. Wiesberger’s feat is not considered for record purposes as preferred lies were in place.
