Last Updated 12 September 2017, 19:04 IST

Deputy Commissioner Rohini Sindhuri has directed officials of the department of Mines and Geology to be extra vigilant about private mines so as to prevent illegal quarrying and sand mining in the district.

Presiding over a meeting here on Tuesday, the DC said that those involved in mining activities should possess necessary licenses issued by the authorities concerned. Stern action should be taken against those who violate the law, she stressed.

Senior geologist Padmaja brought to the notice of the DC that applications seeking new permits for crushers have been received. Rohini said that only those applications which have no objection certificate from the Forest and Revenue departments should be considered. The applications submitted after the last date should be cleared as directed by the court, she said.

When SP Rahul Kumar pointed out the discrepancies in the tender process for sand extraction, the DC suggested a review to ensure that there are no irregularities.

Officials of the Forest, Mines and Geology and Transport departments participated in the meeting.
