Shivani clinches 200M freestyle gold

Rio Olympians Sajan Prakash and Shivani Kataria bagged medals as India continued their fruitful run at the ongoing 9th Asian Age-group Aquatics Championships in Tashkent, Uzbekistan.

Shivani fetched India’s only gold of the day while Sajan and Anshul Kothari claimed silver medals in their respective races on Sunday.

Competing in the Open category, Shivani won the 200M freestyle in 2:07.17 for the yellow metal.

Sajan, meanwhile, finished second in the 800M freestyle. The Kerala swimmer clocked 8:13.46.

Kothari was the second best in the 50M butterfly final, clocking 24.84 seconds.

Karnataka’s Srihari Natraj too opened his account with a bronze-medal performance in Group I, 50M backstroke final. The Global Swim Centre trainee clocked 26.09.

Natraj later led the Indian quartet of Danush Suresh, Mihir Ambre and Xavier D’Souza to a silver medal finish in the 4x100M medley relay. They clocked 3:53.44.

After winning silver on the opening day, Advait Page added a bronze to his kitty with a third-place finish in the Group I, 400M individual medley final. The Madhya Pradesh swimmer clocked 4:44.37.

In Group II, Swadesh Mondal won bronze medals in the 100M breaststroke (1:08.75) and 200M individual medley (2:14.93).

Tanish George Mathew won a bronze medal in the Group II, 200M freestyle, producing an effort of 2:01.16.
